READING I: Jeremiah 18:18-20
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 31:5-6, 14, 15-16
GOSPEL: Matthew 20:17-28
The plot against Jesus has a mirror image in the Old Testament when the people decide to kill Jeremiah. The language is wonderful, and the excuses they find in their minds for killing Jeremiah are so cunning. They decide to listen carefully to every word he says in order to find a reason to kill him.
This is the same sort of behaviour carried out by the pharisees, constantly questioning Jesus, trying to catch him out and use his word's against him.
