Acts 8:24-40 Reflection:
Philip is told to be ready; the angel of the Lord gave him a message with specific instructions to be ready at noon to do a job for God. When we read this we always think, ‘wouldn’t it be great if God told us what to do in specific circumstances.’
Philip’s task was to go and meet a man on his way to Ethiopia and to explain the scriptures to him. The incident is recorded for posterity in the writings in the book of Acts.
That’s another thing we miss. The few times God does give us a special task and reveals something to us, they are never known about or written down nor do they make us famous. Sometimes God does not even bother to thank us!
We are always caught in this dilemma between the human in us and that which comes from God. This leads to the question as to what is the right thing to do; sometimes we analyze too much about our motives, our needs and wants and what is in it for us.
Perhaps the best thing is to just do it; don’t talk about it, think about it or analyze it, just do it.
When we stop thinking about what God wants of us and enjoy being God’s people and his children, then he may speak more clearly to us and we could enjoy life a bit more deeply!
