Although it is now celebrated almost exclusively on Sunday the feast of the Ascension is a beautiful feast worth mentioning for a very particular reason.
It is the centre of catholic teaching that the Son of God, begotten from eternity, without beginning, came to earth and became man.
This whole event, the birth, life and death of Jesus, leading right through to his Ascension, is called the Incarnation.
The truth of the Incarnation can only be understood by faith: there is no human or rational way of arriving at the belief. It is also a great mystery.
The Son of God, pure spirit, left heaven and took on himself a human nature. The Incarnate Son, complete with humanity, returned to heaven; at the very heart of the Trinity as a human being. What a wonderful thought, that a man lives in the centre of the Trinity.
What a beautiful faith we belong too!!
