READING I: 1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19-20
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 40:2 and 5, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10
GOSPEL: Mark 1:29-39
It is a reflection of us. We are always making things more important than God. What the Israelites were saying was, "we are not happy having God as our leader and being under the men he appoints. We want to go our own way and be like everyone else." They do not listen to God when he says these things, be they kings or money, will enslave you. There seems to be something deep inside us that wants to do its own thing and we never seem able to learn that it always leads to destruction. We in the West have made money and property our god and king; look where we are now.
