READING I: Daniel 2:31-45 RESPONSORIAL: Daniel 3:57, 58, 59, 60, 61
GOSPEL: Luke 21:5-11
There is a basilica in Rome called, St Cecilia in Tratevere which was built in honor of this saint. She is the patron saint of musicians. There is a legend that she told her husband that an angel protected her from any man who would abuse her chastity. The husband asked for proof and the angel appeared, whereupon he was baptised.
St Cecilia was martyred in the third century and is buried in the catacomb of St Callistus. If you look at the image you can see that in her right hand she extends three fingers and on her left one. This is how she held her hand as she died, in honour of the Triune God. Her tomb among the other early Christians is one of the most beautiful sights in Rome.
