Gospel of Luke 12:35-38 Reflection:
In today’s gospel Jesus tells us to be ready for action, ready for the coming of God in our lives. What is he saying to us?
Jesus is in everything, he is in every part of our day in the sense that his values can be applied to everything we do; when we meet a colleague, are we pleasant or are we disdainful? When we see someone who needs a chat or a few minutes rest, do we talk to them or do we insist that they keep going, putting profit and money before the person?
The coming of Jesus in our lives is a big thing, particularly the coming of Jesus to meet us as we end our lives, the time when we cross from this world to the next.
But there are many other comings of Jesus, there are many times a day when we meet him is some way, even down to smiling at the wife or speaking kindly to our children.
Our whole life is made up of a succession of little choices for or against Jesus. While in no way could the vast majority of these choices be called anything like a mortal sin or grave sin, they sat in us a pattern of living and thinking. And it is this disposition of our heart that becomes important; in the secret recesses of our heart, are we glad to meet Jesus in the people around us or is our friend who needs help a bother to us?
