Ephesians 6:10-20 Reflections:
Paul gives us in a few sentences the whole summary of the spiritual life and how to live it:
‘Grow strong in the Lord.’ ‘Put God’s armour on.’ ‘Stand your ground.’ ‘Pray all the time.’
These and several other phrases Paul uses to tell us that we are fighting a spiritual battle. The world has lost the sense of evil and yet evil is all around us, especially now when we have people beheading others on video to display to the world and with the intent of spreading fear.
When we want to grow strong in the Lord we begin to resist evil; when evil comes up we say simply that we have decided for Jesus and we are not going to be swayed from than path.
In this decision we stand our ground, we do not move from the decision once it is made. In all walks of life this ability to stand by our decisions is the mark of our maturity. When we think of how we feel after we break some important decision we have made and the way we have to lie to ourselves to justify it then we see the truth of this.
Praying all the time; in other words be aware of God in our daily lives, conscious of the fact that he is with us and always trying to help us if we turn to him.
In all things we should turn to God.
