Went to Mass today at the Monastery. The Abbot presided and his homily was short but brought out an interesting point. It ended with 'You can't have a spiritual life if you criticize the Church'.
He started his homily with 'You might not like it, as I don't, that the Pope didn't tell us he was resigning before he told the world' but that doesn't mean we are right in criticizing him.
We should not follow the lead of the media at this time. Jesus taught us that to honour our father and mother is a commandment that needs to be kept. Constructive criticism is good but criticism just because we don't understand and get caught up with the emotion of what is being drilled to us by the media is not good.
God is our Father and he has given us His Church as our Mother. Thus, to criticize the Church is dishonoring the Father as well.
Pray for the Church, for Pope Benedict and for the priest that will become the Pope. We live in interesting and fascinating times!
