I went to visit a friend today who is ill. He and I have been friends for years and have come through some rough times together. He may or may not recover from this illness. We were talking quite openly about dying. Looking back at our past he said, "T, you and I have done our dying long ago!" He was referring to the pain in our lives and how we had submitted our will to God and accepted his will in all things. It was a profound statement and hit me very hard. There is a lot of pain in life and there has been a lot of pain in my life, but God is always there, waiting for me to call. When I think of what my friend said I can reply, "Yes, D, we have done our dying, and this life is the beginning of the new life which God has in store for us and while here we live in patient waiting for the coming of the Lord, and we enjoy and love those God has put in our lives."
